Hi, I’m Heng-Zi. It’s nice to meet you.

About Me.

How do you get off a train that you never wanted to get on in the first place? Being a people-pleaser or caregiver has taken you to a place where you do not even know who you are anymore. Burnt out, overwhelmed, anxious, numb. This is your daily grind.

Welcome. If you’re looking for a space to figure out where to start, then you’re in the right place. As someone who personally struggled with these same tendencies, I have done a lot of my own work, personally and professionally, to be able to support others who are dealing with similar issues.

I work with a lot of givers, parents, and leader-type people who shoulder a lot of responsibilities officially and unofficially to help them find ways of being that do not only centre caring for others.

As the eldest in my family, I took on the mantle of bearing a lot of responsibility from a young age. This followed me into my adult years where everything I did was to make sure others were ok. I neglected to take time for myself to explore what is important to me. I lost parts of my younger self: creativity, curiosity, joy. I am still working on this daily but I want to support others to start and enter their journey towards a more creative, curious and joy-filled life.

I blend counselling and coaching into my practice. My background is as an educator and teacher-counsellor for almost 20 years. I taught in classrooms, ran inclusive education programs, and am currently department head of a small alternate high school program. I am well-versed in the arena of educational support for parents with children with diverse needs. Whether it is helping parents navigate the school system or supporting parents as they figure out how to be the most present parent possible, I attune to helping families find a way to adjust and flow with more ease with the circumstances they’re facing.

I also grew up as a racialized individual in Canada (Turtle Island) and worked for a humanitarian non-profit for a number of years. Having travelled and lived abroad, I am still learning about embracing my own intersection of identities as well as supporting others who are connected to more than one culture.

Counselling and coaching fit well into how I work with clients as I am trained to provide deep therapeutic support for the burnt out, anxious and overwhelmed parts of a person that are often tied to past trauma or difficult events. At the same time, once clients have worked through those pieces, I can continue to offer support and a plan to coach clients on how to build a better path for their own future that is more integrated and whole.

The advantage of working with me is that you can have a therapist and a coach in one person.

I am constantly learning and growing along with my clients. One of my favourite things is to share a good laugh with a client, even sometimes during a tough session. My desire always is that you feel seen, heard and validated in every appointment. I’m passionate about this work because I know what it is like to spend my time, energy and resources on others but not on myself. When you come see me, you are taking the time to invest in yourself and your own well-being.

I create a compassionate container for your experience so that you can channel your story, your life, in powerful ways.
